Terms and conditions

Please read these terms before booking. By completing your booking and payment, you agree to them.

1. Our service

• Explore Buddy Tokyo provides private walking accompaniment and cultural experience support in Tokyo by local university students.
• We are not a licensed travel agency or licensed tour guides. We do not arrange or book transport, hotels or flights.
• We do not provide car pick-up, drop-off or any transport by private car or taxi. We travel on foot and by public transport.
• Every plan includes an online video call before your trip to plan the day together.

2. Meeting point

• We usually meet in the lobby of your hotel. Meeting points are generally limited to hotels inside the Yamanote Line loop or in major areas such as Shibuya and Shinjuku.
• Any change to the meeting point must be agreed at least 24 hours before the tour.

3. Booking and payment

• Bookings are paid in full in advance through the secure Stripe payment link we send you. Your booking is confirmed once payment is complete.
• The tour fee covers our accompaniment service, the pre-trip call and our buddies' own transport during the tour. It does not include your transport fares, meals, drinks, admission fees or other personal expenses.

4. Cancellation and refunds

• More than 72 hours before the tour: full refund.
• Within 72 hours of the tour, or no-show: no refund.
• If we cancel because of severe weather, a natural disaster or illness of the buddy, we refund the full amount.

5. Safety and responsibility

• Please take care of your own health and belongings during the tour, and tell us about allergies or medical conditions before the tour.
• We strongly recommend that you have travel insurance for your stay in Japan.
• To the extent permitted by law, we are not responsible for injury, illness, loss or damage that is not caused by our intentional misconduct or negligence.
• We may end a tour without a refund if a guest behaves illegally, harasses others or acts in a way that puts people at risk.

Privacy policy

1. What we collect

• Your name and contact details (email address, social media account)
• Your hotel name, for the meeting point
• Your travel dates, group size, preferences, and allergies or medical conditions you choose to share

2. How we use it

• To communicate with you about your tour
• To arrange the meeting point and plan your route
• To process payment through Stripe, our payment provider. We do not see or store your card details.

3. Sharing

We never sell your personal information. We do not share it with third parties except Stripe for processing payment, or where Japanese law requires it.

4. Photos and videos

We may take photos or videos during the tour. We always ask for your permission before posting any image of you on our social media. You can say no, or ask us to remove a post at any time.
